Arcade Emulator - MAME Description: The world's most famous emulator is without a doubt MAME! Just imagine that it plays more or less around 3000 games and it keeps going! With it you can play the most classic games that you loved so long ago.
Whether you like emulators or not if you are a fan of all those old games then MAME might be your last chance to play them again.
It's worth mentioning that some game developers have released some of their games for free. You may download those games from the MAME developer site.

Game Boy Advance Emulator - Visual Boy Advance Description: Since the first version of Visual Boy Advance which lacked some major features (such as an interface), this Gameboy Advance emulator has progressed greatly. I found compatibility to be quite good and many games were playable. Actually I didn't have any problems with every game I tried, though I must admit I didn't test a whole lot of games. The games ran at full speed (with sound) on my Celeron 900 Mhz., so if you have a similar or faster PC you shouldn't have any problem either. A Pentium III 500 Mhz. is the absolute minimum requirement to play games. The Gameboy Advance is a 32-bit machine so emulating it requires more CPU power.

Game Cube Emulator - Dolphin Description: Dolphin is the first Gamecube emulator
able to run commercial games! Even at its early stage some games manage
to load and run but not perfectly. Please remember that Dolphin is an
experimental GameCube emulator so many games might not run and for the
ones that do run you will need a strong PC..

N64 Emulator - Project 64 Description: Project64 is a Nintendo 64 emulator which at first seemed to have popped up out of nowhere. I had some trouble trying it myself as my PC doesn't meet the steep system requirements of Project64. Yet from what I have seen, if you have the right PC, Project64 will probably work better for you than any other Nintendo 64 emulator.

Nintendo DS Emulator - NO$GBA Description: NO$GBA started as a Gameboy Advance debugger but was later released as a normal emulator(version 1.9). It is the first gameboy advance emulator to support multiplayer games on the same pc! Later versions added support for the NintendoDS portable console.

Nintendo Emulator - Nesticle Description: I fondly remember Nesticle as one of the first emulators I ever tried. Back in those days (1997) it was already able to play many NES games properly and fast, even on the poor hardware I had at the time (a 486).
It may have a funny name and a weird mouse cursor, this emulator is what revolutionized the world of emulation back in it's time. Unfortunately after part of the Nesticle source was leaked it was discontinued, but it still remains one of the best NES emulators currently available.
The latest version of Nesticle is X.XX, but is for DOS only. The latest Windows version is included with version 0.42. The DOS versions of Nesticle require the memory extender DOS/4GW to run. Just extract this file into the same directory as Nesticle. You won't need DOS/4GW for the Windows version of Nesticle.

Playstation 2 Emulator - PCSX2 Description: PCSX2 is the first PS2 emulator that slowly showed us that PS2 emulation is possible. Today it has a large game compatibility that keeps growing with each new version. For a full compatibility list you may want to check the official site before trying to play a game.

Super Nintendo Emulator - Snes9x Description: Snes9x is a great Super Nintendo emulator for which ports are available for many platforms, unlike ZSNES.
Though Snes9x also has many of the features of ZSNES, it lacks a bit in compatibility. This doesn't mean it's bad, but there can only be one the best: ZSNES. If however you have a Macintosh or other system which can't run DOS executables you are stuck with Snes9x however ;-) The Macintosh port of Snes9x is available from www.emulation.net.
Version 1.30b#1 featured many improvements, including premature NetPlay support (still buggy though according to the author). Also I noticed a significant improvement in the "wind" sound found in the opening of Final Fantasy III (US) after I switched on the Anti Resonance's alternate sample decoding routine feature, which was also new in that release.
